One of the fathers of modern architecture and design, the celebrated Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, gave his century and all the future lovers of grace and elegance an icon: the Barcelona Chair, still today part of the Knoll collection. Conceived to welcome the King and the Queen of Spain at the German pavilion of the Universal Exposition of Barcelona in 1929, the chair is probably inspired by ancient Roman chairs and it symbolises the elevation of a serial product to royalty.

The combination of advanced design and craftsmanship is expressed by the quilted upholstery, made by 40 panels hand-welted and hand-tufted as well as in the polished finish, hand-made on the celebrated cross-shaped structure. Simple elegance: “ Less is more”.
