280 Zig-Zag Cassina

Brand: Cassina

Product category: Cassina Chairs

Designer: Gerrit Thomas Rietveld

Availability: On request

Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, a Dutch designer, created the 280 Zig-Zag chair in 1934 for Cassina.

The 280 Zig-Zag chair is an iconic and genuine addition to one's everyday life; it is distinguished by the construction and structural methods that it employs.

As one of the earliest designs of cantilever seating, it features two pillars that fold at floor and seat height to create a stable support structure. While the mechanism as a whole is stable and well-balanced, the lack of a backrest creates an unsettling sensation of floating. There is a lot of energy and formal and artistic individuality in the way these panels scan at regular intervals, kept together by the standard dovetail joint.

The frame is made of American cherry or ash, and the Cassina re-edition features an open-hole treatment that improves the workmanship and highlights the natural beauty of the grain.

This chair is the ideal combination of style and utility.
