Doge Cassina

Tobia Scarpa created the Doge table for Cassina.

The table's design establishes itself as an expression of the Italian philosophy that values form over function and seeks to restore classical aesthetic norms. The designer's experimental and novel approach to artistic material is evidenced by the use of disparate materials, such as aluminium for the structure and glass for the tabletop.

The supporting structure is distinguished by components made of aluminium or steel that have flat surfaces and substantial volume. Together, the upper glass top, which provides a transparent view of every construction component, and the screws visible below it represents a new design frontier in which the concept of reason is abandoned in favour of the clear aesthetics of the form.
