The Mass Table by Tom Dixon
Mass is a splendid piece by Tom Dixon, a tireless innovator known for his imaginative luminaires and his latest generation furnishings and accessories. In the early 1980s, Dixon debuted as a welder of scrap steel, and he was an expert at transforming old pieces of metal into splendid furnishings and design pieces.
The Mass is a super polished solid brass structure made from one single extruded box section of brass. Using the most familiar unit in furniture construction history, the plank, and presenting a series of familiar objects in a highly polished gold coloured metal, Dixon has produced more than just a table: it is a monumental heavyweight sculpture.
Its splendid crosspieces are made with a series of predetermined joints and there are other matching pieces: a console covered in brass, a bookcase and a coat rack.
