Karelia: Zanotta's Pop Armchair is Back
Zanotta announced that one of the returning products in 2022 would be the famous pop icon armchair named Karelia. This anti-conformist chair expresses the furnishing style of the sixties and it is a symbol of freedom from that decade.
Karelia was one of the first structureless armchairs, made entirely in polyurethane foam. Its soft wavy surface was inspired by the homeland of designer Liisi Beckmann, the Republic of Carelia between Finlandia and Russia.
The coast of this country is formed by bays and gulfs, and its outline was the model for a chair that is still appreciated today.
The new fabric upholstery with its brilliant colours replaces the vinyl from the ‘70s without losing any of its charm. This new removable upholstery made in bioelastic fabric called Samba is woven with a durable and iridescent diagonal weave.
The new Karelia comes in a range of fresh contemporary colours. A series of improvements to the lower backrest have been made with double density polyurethane foam, and seat depth has been increased.
