Universal by Jean-Marie Massaud for MDF Italia
The well-known and prolific designer Jean Marie Massaud has crated the Universal Collection for MDF Italia. This series of chairs with comfortable three-dimensional backrests is the result of a blend of industrial design and artisan care.
Jean-Marie Massaud, who created the famous Flow chair for MDF Italia in 2009,
now proposes Universal, a chair with a wood shell and upholstered backrest, or a small armchair made with two curved elements, produced by a mechanical mould, that fit together by hand. It’s a demonstration of old artisan cabinetry techniques in action.
The entire concept of Universal is based on the new patented technology that is able to bend wood as if it were metal. This creates unique design, perfect comfort and great ergonomics.
The name of the project is connected to the seat surface, a focus on the structure, which was designed to accommodate different bases and backrests for a high degree of personalization.
