The Iconic '1919' Chair by Poltrona Frau
Today, we’re going to look at the beautiful 1919 chair by Poltrona Frau. This armchair was named after the date on its drawings, and it bears the code '128' in the archives.
It was custom-designed directly by Renzo Frau for Filiberto Ludovico di Savoia, Duke of Pistoia. Despite the details of its beginnings, the ‘1919’ later became one of the brand's first and biggest public successes.
A reinterpretation of the classic bergère model, it has a distinctive capitonné pattern on the backrest, a special extendable element as a footrest, and a delightful little armrest-tray (optional), which was originally designed to hold the Duke’s ashtray, since he loved a good cigar.
The '1919' armchair is a highly prestigious proposal in a numbered series. The supporting structure is made of solid seasoned beech wood. The wheels and metal parts come with either a gold or gunmetal finish.
