Glide by Porro: Sliding Partitions Interact with Architecture
This system of sliding partitions made by Porro has been expanded to include a new version of Glide, with its wide custom-sized surfaces in an infinite number of finishes that mimic different materials.
Piero Lissoni described them as follows, “the sliding Glide partitions were designed many years ago, but before we introduced them in the collection, we waited to complete the physical parts of our systems.”
Today, the systems are completely integrated with pre-existing constructions, and therefore they become part of the home instead of just a simple sliding add-on.
These partitions have L-shaped profiles in painted metal (in the colours white, black, cuvée, mocha, or antique red) that frame the different materials with a contrasting or matching colour, almost invisible in the Glide Shanghai model.
Another striking example is Glide Kyoto with an incorporated recessed handle. This solution is idea for creating large single material partitions flush with the wall that are designed to section off useful secret spaces.
