Gallotti & Radice and Molecola: Elegance and Design Inspired by Physics
The Molecola table, designed by Massimo Castagna for Gallotti&Radice, is a beautiful piece of dining room furniture. Inspired by physics, it conveys great lightness in its shapes and fluid lines. Its transparent glass top supported by a multilayer wooden base was designed to look like the structure of a molecule.
The base consists of poplar wood cylinders, connected together by a solid bridge in Toulipier, a versatile wood from the Magnolia family known for its peculiar drying process.
The splendid base is available in circular or barrel-shaped versions, made with arched fittings, and it supports the a 15mm tempered glass top.
To achieve a harmonious look, the elements of the base are adapted to the shape and size of the top, evoking atomic distribution.
The finish of the Molecola base is done by hand, using a mixture of natural stone powders applied with a spatula. This creates a textured effect that can be seen through the glass top, in a game of contrasting shapes, volumes and materials.
