Perfect Harmony in Light: Spacey and Miles Table Lamps by Lasvit
Spacey is the splendid spherical lamp designed for Lasvit by Lukáš Novák, who wanted to invoke an entire universe of light with this perfect shape. The Spacey lamp captures the beauty and variety of the universe through a special technique called lithyalin. This process makes its surface looks like a precious stone, when it is really made of glass.
This technique was invented more than 200 years ago in Northern Bohemia, and was recently rediscovered by Czech designers.
The Miles table lamp by designer Yabu Pushelberg also has distinctive character. The entire Miles collection draws inspiration from the similarities between music-making and glassmaking.
The shapes of these lamps clearly resemble wind instruments, and bring to mind the way the Lasvit craftsmen might have looked while blowing glass. This delicate balance is reminiscent of a jazz trumpet solo or vocal improvisation. The simple external structures hide curved shapes that, when stacked, create a rhythmic luminous sculpture that blends in perfectly with the environment.
