CH621 Reissue and CH290 Series Expansion by Carl Hansen & Søn

Carl Hansen & Søn presents a reissue of the CH621 chair and an expansion of the successful CH290 series, offering a thoughtful update of two designs by Hans J. Wegner, while preserving the designer’s distinctive craftsmanship and formal coherence.

First conceived in 1948, the CH621 chair is a singular example in the Danish designer’s body of work, as he created very few swivel chairs throughout his long career. The combination of an industrial stainless steel base and hand-finished upholstered elements is particularly striking, resulting in a perfectly balanced composition.

The reissue has been developed from the original technical drawings retrieved from the historical archives. Functional updates include the addition of a fifth castor for greater stability and the introduction of a gas-lift mechanism for height adjustment, making the chair perfectly suited to contemporary workspaces.

Designed in 1962, the CH290 series embodies Wegner’s signature restrained aesthetic through clearly expressed solid wood frames, generous armrests and well-balanced proportions. The range now includes two- and three-seater sofas, lounge chairs with either high or low backs, and a matching footstool. The collection integrates seamlessly into the brand’s portfolio, reaffirming a clear and recognisable design identity.
