The Evolution of the S 220 Chair by Thonet

The new Thonet catalogue has a new entry. The iconic S 214 chair has morphed into the S220, transformed by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin from Industrial Facility. This model now sports a lightweight seat in curved plywood and soft wheels. It’s also a versatile, ergonomic new swivel chair. The new model, called S 220 Atelier, features a lightweight curved plywood structure that defines this sculptural seat, equipped with soft wheels mounted on an aluminium base suitable for any type of floor: it’s ideal for offices, home offices and hybrid workspaces.

Curved plywood softens the design, which reflects the efficient use of resources. The tapered, enveloping shape of the chair allows the structure to oscillate, ensuring greater comfort and support.

The integrated reclining mechanism can be locked with a lever, and allows the user to tilt the chair as desired. The splendid four-star swivel base is made of aluminium, polished or powder-coated in intense black.
