Rethinking Classics: S 32/S 64 DARK MELANGE by Thonet
During this month, the famous German designer Sebastian Herkner will debut his “Rethinking Classics' collection: S 32/S 64 DARK MELANGE”, which was prepared exclusively for Thonet using natural dyes. The collection revisits the tubular steel cantilever chairs S 32 and S 64, which were designed in the late 1920s and among the most popular Thonet chairs in the world for almost a century. Particularly versatile, these chairs are suitable for a wide variety of interiors thanks to their aesthetic minimalism and clean lines in combination with the airy Vienna straw seat cover. The new dark melange finish represents the brand's first offering in a dark variant.
The Thonet S 32 cantilever chair and the S 64 armrest version were designed by Marcel Breuer and are now icons: the solid wood backrest embodied tradition, while the chromed tubular steel frame represented the present and the future of design.
