Ancient Shapes and Exotic Colours: New Cenote Sinks by Agape

Cenote and Cenote Lava are the two countertop sinks from Agape designed by Patricia Urquiola. These small domestic objects have rough outer surfaces in lava stone and refractory clay that contrast with their polished, enamelled inner surfaces, which come in colours that mimic Mexican pools. The sinks in this Agape collection are made in natural refractory clay, shaped on a potter’s wheel. The process gives each piece unique material imperfections because no two sinks can be made with exactly the same characteristics.

Agape Cenote Lava is a monolithic piece in Sicilian lava stone, worked with a numerically controlled system and fired at 1100°C. The lava stone shows its natural colour, which adds value to the artisan process used to form the final product.

Ms. Urquiola had this to say about it: "This project stands out for its contrast between rough and smooth surfaces, instead of relying on a merely decorative approach."
