MR Chaise Lounge Knoll

The MR Chaise Lounge was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927. The chaise lounge, which is still produced by Knoll today, is characterised by a tubular design pioneered by Marcel Breuer and used by Mies in many of his creations, such as the renowned Brno Chair Tubular.

The extraordinary innovation of this kind of design consisted in substituting seams with simple curves: a steel tube is modelled into the typical shapes of nineteenth-century rocking chairs without the necessity to be joined to other pieces. It makes the whole base structure alone.

The soft cushion has a quilted structure made with rectangular sections stitched together and it is connected to the base with belts in the same kind of leather used for the upholstery.
