Rolf Benz was founded in 1964 in Nagold, Germany by the upholsterer, Rolf Benz.
Specialised in producing sofas, the company was organised to achieve its founder's main goal: offer products that restore the sofa to its central role in the home. In fact, the sofa is too often considered a marginal element when it should be a place to escape from the stress of daily life, a place for contemplation.
The first projects were inspired by a contemporary view of space, and were recognised as innovative products in contrast to classic models, which were conventional at the time.
The 1970s, were significant for the company. During that time, Rolf Benz had become successful and the decade brought significant changes in the company: they decided to expand their headquarters and move to Mötzingen, where they bought a 7000 m2 factory.
After the fervour of the 1980s, when the company gained recognition for the style of its furnishings in glossy white finishes, the 1990s were a time of increased production and expanding to foreign markets, including Austria, Switzerland and Benelux.
Today, Rolf Benz is one of Germany's most important furniture brands.
